Drooping (ptosis) may be mild (grade 1), moderate (grade 2) or advanced (grade 3). The breast attaches to the chest wall at the inferior mammary line (dark line shown in the figure). The areola should be over this line. If it is not, this is called ptosis. Sometimes there is no drooping-just deflation (called pseudoptosis). More often than not, there is both some ptosis and volume loss.
If drooping is mild, a breast implant is the easiest, least expensive and most cosmeticly acceptable procedure that will correct this.
If the drooping is in the mild-moderate category, a Benelli (peri-areolar) lift may be used with or without an implant.
For severe drooping, an inferior pedicle technique may be used.
